Delivering Agenda 2063 STYIP

Agenda 2063 in Power Spaces | A Programme of the Agenda 2063 Academy

Overview

The Agenda 2063 Traineeship is a 12-week, remote, mentored work experience that equips youth and early-career professionals across Africa and the diaspora with the skills, tools, and insights to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s transformation. Through structured modules aligned with the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (STYIP) of Agenda 2063, trainees deepen awareness, align commitments, engage with Moonshots, build partnerships, activate knowledge, and reflect on their unique role in delivering “The Africa We Want.”

The programme is curated by the “Agenda 2063 Academy” under the leadership of the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Module 1: Overview – Envisioning Africa, Celebrating Our Journey

Weeks 0–1

Trainees are introduced to the vision of Africa in 2063 and the historical journey since the founding of the OAU. Through the creative exercise of writing a personal “email from the future,” they internalize the ambition of Agenda 2063 and begin to position themselves within the journey. The Traineeship is an application of the 5 stages of Domestication of Agenda 2063 STYIP – Deepen awareness; Align to own commitments; Orient to Moonshots; Engage Partnerships; and Activate knowledge.

Deliverable: Write an email to your future self from the year 2063. This will be revisited in the final week.

Reading: Email from the Future, Agenda 2063 Framework

Module 2: Deepen Awareness – Understanding Africa’s Development Strategy

Weeks 1–2

This module explores Agenda 2063 as Africa’s long-term development strategy. It reflects on the lessons of the First Ten-Year Plan, the shocks of 2023, and the urgent need for implementation through “Power Spaces” – the real decision-making arenas.

Deliverable: Publish a LinkedIn blog reflecting on the Agenda 2063 value proposition.

Readings: Agenda 2063 documents, Michael Porter on Strategy, Power Spaces Report

Module 3: Align to Own Commitments – Owning the Journey to 2063

Weeks 3–4

Trainees explore personal trajectories to 2063, identify life goals, and map how their personal commitments align with Agenda 2063 priorities. The focus is on intentionality, goal setting, and measurable alignment.

Deliverable: Table of personal commitments aligned to Agenda 2063 STYIP.

Readings: Self-discovery resources, goal-setting manuals

Module 4: Orient to Moonshots – Amplifying Ambition for Transformation

Weeks 5–6

Trainees apply Moonshot thinking to elevate their commitments. They analyze delivery mechanisms using the Agenda 2063 strategic filters: Value Proposition, Strategic Fit, Political Anchoring, Trade-Offs, and Development Narrative. They review an existing policy instrument and reimagine it through a Moonshot lens.

Deliverable: Note on aligning personal commitments with Moonshots and reflections on delivery systems.

Readings: Delivering Development Plans, Moonshots Overview

Module 5: Engage in Partnership – Building Alliances That Deliver

Weeks 7–8

This module introduces tools for partnership building across cultures, sectors, and geographies. Trainees map their key relationships and identify how to co-create results with others over time.

Deliverable: Partnership matrix.

Readings: The Art of Persuasion, Partnership Case Studies

Module 6: Activate Knowledge – Curate, Share, Apply

Weeks 9–10

Knowledge is viewed as know-how. This module emphasizes the knowledge cycle: Curate, Share, Apply. Trainees develop a personal Knowledge Activation Plan and explore strategies to support knowledge use by others.

Deliverable: Knowledge Plan.

Readings: Knowledge Activation materials, Agenda 2063 Academy resources

Module 7: Reflection and Writing for Impact

Weeks 11–12

Trainees revisit their original email from the future, refine it, and consolidate lessons learned. They are guided on how to craft a personal impact story and influence through writing.

Deliverable: Final Reflection Note – “Agenda 2063 and Me.”

Readings: Writing for Influence, Communicating for Change
